Position Overview:

We are seeking a Hardware Electronics Designer to own the design, build, and bring-up of the RF front-end electronics and antenna hardware for our in-house X-band AESA radar payload, used for in-orbit Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) and Close Proximity Operations (CPO). On our project, the RF front-end and the radar algorithms are the core in-house know-how; this role owns the hardware side end-to-end and coordinates subcontractors for the non-core boards and integration.

Key Responsibilities:

● Lead the design of the RF/microwave front-end: T/R modules, LNAs, power amplifiers, filters, mixers, switches, and the beamforming network.

● Design the AESA antenna / phased array and feed network, including beam-steering and beamforming hardware.

● Produce RF PCB designs: RF distribution network, filters, controlled-impedance stack-ups, RF routing, grounding and shielding, and cavity / RF-resonance mitigation.

● Define and implement calibration approaches for the phased array and the RF chain.

● Lead hardware integration verification and validation from the strategy (V&V Plan, Test Plan preparation) up to the final product in-orbit validation.

● Characterise performance with RF lab instrumentation (VNA, spectrum/signal analyzers), correlating measured versus predicted with the RF performance/algorithms engineer.

● Interface with subcontractors for a wide variety of components and domains: digital / FPGA carrier boards, power / PCDU, mechanical and thermal, PCB fabrication and assembly, environmental testing.

● Hold responsibility for the physical internal interfaces of the RADAR on the RF and digital / processing side (DPU, FPGA) and interact with the software team to maximize HW/SW integration.

● Support qualification for the space environment and document design work according to internal engineering standards.

Required Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic, Telecommunications, or RF Engineering, or equivalent.

● 3+ years of experience in RF/microwave hardware design, including front-ends that were built and measured (not only simulated).

Hands-on experience with RF testing equipment: vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.

● High-frequency PCB design (controlled impedance, RF layout) with a
professional EDA tool (e.g., Altium, KiCad) and RF simulation (e.g., ADS, AWR, HFSS, or CST).

● Experience owning a subsystem end-to-end and coordinating external suppliers.

● Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or equivalent tools for RF modeling and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

● AESA / phased-array hardware experience and T/R module design.

● Antenna (patch array) design experience.

● Knowledge of space environment constraints, radiation effects, and component qualification principles (ECSS).

Key

Competencies:

● Strong hands-on hardware instinct: design → build → measure → debug.

● Ability to own a critical subsystem with limited supervision. xrdbqlu

● Ability to work within a small multidisciplinary team and steer subcontractors.

● Good technical communication for reporting and documentation
