The Role This is a hands-on technical role requiring someone who is comfortable operating independently, managing complex database challenges, and acting as a subject matter expert in MongoDB architecture and operations.
Responsibilities Administer, monitor, and optimise MongoDB deployments across replica sets and sharded clusters in production and non-production environments
Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, query optimisation, and index management to maintain system health and throughput
Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies in line with client SLAsLead database patching, version upgrades, and migration activities with minimal disruption to live services
Collaborate with application developers and architects to review schema designs and advise on data modelling best practices
Implement and maintain security controls including role-based access, encryption at rest and in transit, and audit logging
Diagnose and resolve database incidents, contributing to root cause analysis and long-term remediation plans
Produce clear technical documentation covering architecture, runbooks, and change processes
Support the wider consulting team with pre-sales, solution design, or knowledge transfer where required
The Ideal Candidate Essential Demonstrable experience administering MongoDB in production at scale, including sharded clusters and replica sets Strong understanding of MongoDB internals: storage engines, write concern, read preference, aggregation pipelines, and the Wired Tiger engine
Hands-on experience with MongoDB Atlas or equivalent managed MongoDB deployments
Proficiency in performance analysis using tools such as MongoDB Ops Manager, Cloud Manager, or Atlas monitoring
Solid understanding of indexing strategies, query planning, and execution plan analysis
Experience implementing RBAC, encryption, and auditing in regulated or enterprise environments
Comfortable working in Linux-based environments with scripting capability in Bash, Python, or Java Script Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with client stakeholders
Desirable
MongoDB Professional or Associate certification
Experience with complementary technologies such as Kafka, Elasticsearch, or Redis Familiarity with cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, or GCPBackground in consulting or client-facing delivery environments
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform or Ansible Rate
50 - 60 EUR per Hour - 12 month contract (likely to extend)
