Mechanical Project Manager

West London | Hyperscale Data Centre | Permanent

£120,000 + package

If you’re a Mechanical Project Manager who wants to take ownership of a major hyperscale data centre package, this is a role that needs someone who can properly control the detail, not just report on progress.

You’ll be joining a new hyperscale data centre project, working for an established M&E contractor delivering complex mechanical infrastructure under a major main contractor. The project is technically demanding, programme-driven and built around critical systems where quality, coordination and commissioning need to be managed properly from day one.

This is not standard commercial M&E. The work is faster, more detailed and less forgiving. You’ll need to understand the pressure of delivering mechanical systems in a mission-critical environment where installation quality, testing, commissioning and client confidence all matter.

The role

You’ll take responsibility for the mechanical delivery of a major hyperscale data centre project, managing the package from pre-construction and technical coordination through to installation, commissioning and handover.

The work is expected to include chilled water systems, critical cooling, CRAH/CRAC units, pipework, pumps, pressurisation, plantroom infrastructure, ventilation, ductwork, smoke extract, BMS interfaces, flushing, pressure testing, commissioning and integrated systems support.

You’ll be working closely with the project director, construction teams, design teams, commercial staff, supervisors, subcontractors, specialist vendors and client representatives to make sure the mechanical package is delivered properly.

This is a role for someone who knows how to drive a job, manage the supply chain and keep control of programme, quality, technical information and handover.

What you’ll be doing

Managing mechanical project delivery across a major hyperscale data centre scheme.

Taking responsibility for programme, procurement, labour, subcontractors, technical coordination, QA and handover.

Working with design, engineering and construction teams to resolve technical issues before they affect site progress.

Managing chilled water, cooling systems, pipework, pumps, plant rooms, ventilation, ductwork, valves, flushing, testing and commissioning support.

Coordinating specialist vendors, subcontractors and supervisors across a busy construction environment.

Reviewing drawings, technical submissions, RFIs, RAMS, inspection records, commissioning plans and handover documentation.

Keeping a tight grip on progress, short-term planning, reporting, risk, cost, change and project close-out.

Supporting commissioning, client witness testing, snagging, O&M production and final handover.

Maintaining high standards around health and safety, quality, coordination and site discipline.

What you’ll need

You’ll need strong mechanical project management experience within data centres, mission-critical projects, major M&E schemes, pharmaceutical, healthcare, life sciences, commercial shell and core or technically demanding building services environments.

Data centre experience would be strongly preferred, especially on large-scale mechanical infrastructure, critical cooling, chilled water, plant rooms, CRAH/CRAC units, pipework, ventilation and commissioning-heavy projects.

You should be confident managing subcontractors, supervisors, technical teams and specialist vendors on high-pressure projects.

You’ll need to understand programme, procurement, QA, commissioning, client reporting, variations, risk and handover.

A strong mechanical background is essential. HNC/HND, degree, trade background or equivalent building services experience will all be considered if you have delivered at the right level.

The right person

You’re technically strong, commercially aware and comfortable taking ownership.

You can deal with the client, push subcontractors, challenge design issues, support the site team and keep the programme moving without letting quality slip.

You understand that hyperscale data centre work is different from standard commercial M&E. The pace is quicker, the systems are more critical and the level of coordination is higher.

You’ll suit this role if you’ve already delivered major mechanical packages and want a permanent position in one of the most technically demanding sectors in construction.

The salary is £120,000 plus package, including car allowance, travel, bonus, private healthcare and additional company benefits.
