Position: Student Assistant - Jackson ADD's Office

Overview

Responsibilities
  • Provides support to the Jackson Office Assistant Deputy Director (ADD), Administrative Assistant (AA), Departmental Analyst (DA) and Senior Executive Management Assistant (SEMA).
  • The Jackson Assistant Deputy Director’s Office plans and directs all State Correctional Facilities assigned to the Jackson Office.
  • The Administrative Assistant to the ADD completes facility self-audits, reviews facility reports including critical incident reports and post-incident reports, completes special projects for the ADD’s Office and the MDOC and provides support to CFA Facilities as requested.
  • The Senior Executive Management Assistant performs executive support secretarial functions, serves as liaison for Wardens  Offices of 14 correctional facilities and the Jackson Business Office, coordinates Wardens  quarterly meetings, and prepares correspondence and reports for the ADD.
  • The Departmental Analyst completes or oversees professional research and analysis assignments for evaluation, assessment, planning, development, and implementation of departmental programs or services.
Qualifications

Education: Current enrollment in high school, vocational or technical school, or post-secondary educational institution.

Experience: No specific type or amount required.

  • Ability to use a personal computer, with some knowledge of spreadsheets and databases in Access and Excel.
  • Able to follow instructions on how to objectively complete an assessment.

  • The student must provide current evidence of enrollment or acceptance to an educational institution and three (3) signed letters of recommendation. This information must be included as attachments on your application.

Training and employment details
  • New hires to the MDOC, and returning MDOC employees who have been away for more than two years, will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) of 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training depending on offender contact level and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.

Background checks

Certain positions may require a criminal history background check. The Department may screen out applicants convicted of a felony under Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible until satisfactory completion of any sentence, including parole or probation.
