Position OverviewThe Sr. Engineer III will support the High Voltage Distribution (HVD) Engineering team, focusing on project execution and coordination across instrumentation and controls (I&C) disciplines. This role emphasizes project engineering responsibilities, ensuring successful field implementation while enabling technical staff to focus on detailed design work. The position involves managing projects from concept through closeout, coordinating multiple disciplines, and supporting both in‑house and consultant‑led designs.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a project engineer, overseeing projects from concept through construction closeout.
- Coordinate across disciplines (I&C, physical substation layout, civil, and lines teams) to ensure alignment and successful execution.
- Support I&C designs for substations, including protection and controls, instrumentation, motor operators, air‑brakes, and switch controls.
- Assist in creating and maintaining scope of work (SOW) documents, RFQs, purchase requisitions (PRs), and project milestones (30/60/90 reviews) for consulting services.
- Support technical reviews of I&C designs and consultant deliverables.
- Lead and participate in meetings with consultants to maintain project targets and deliverables.
- Track and process invoices, RFIs, and other project documentation.
- Maintain and improve project KPIs, including quality, schedule, and budget compliance.
- Proactively seek information and updates to ensure project success and efficiency.
- May participate in technical reviews; while not required, prior experience is advantageous.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Controls, or related field.
- 5+ years of relevant utility or engineering project experience (utility experience preferred; not required).
- Strong project coordination and execution skills, including understanding of multi‑discipline design inputs and field implementation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and standard project management tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively with a cross‑functional team.
- Outgoing, initiative‑driven, and able to proactively gather information from subject matter experts.
- Familiarity with I&C systems in substations, AC/DC load studies, and substation layouts is beneficial.
- Ability to visit multiple sites throughout Michigan’s Lower Peninsula (excluding the Thumb area).
- Mileage reimbursement provided; per diem currently not available (subject to change).
