Electrical Engineer IV

Location: Jackson, MI (Hybrid – Per Diem offered for non‑local candidates)

Employment Type: Contract / Long‑Term Project

Per Diem: Applicable for eligible non‑local candidates

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer IV to support complex substation and line control projects within our utility operations. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in hardware/software integration, protective relays, automation controllers, and substation communication systems. This role involves hands‑on configuration, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and cross‑functional coordination across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineer and integrate hardware and software systems for substation and line control applications.
  • Configure and program Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs), RTUs, protective relays, meters, and transformer monitoring systems.
  • Develop, test, and validate system connectivity, data acquisition, and control interfaces.
  • Support design and commissioning activities for substation networks and communication systems.
  • Participate in system prototyping, lab testing, field troubleshooting, and validation activities.
  • Collaborate closely with design teams to ensure device integration aligns with CAD drawings and engineering deliverables.
  • Prepare technical documentation including reports, configuration files, network diagrams, and commissioning records.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, technicians, field engineers, and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Required).
  • Utility industry experience involving substations, transmission, distribution, or generation (renewables or conventional).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working on large, multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in substation automation, protection & control systems, and integration workflows.
