Sr. Engineer

Department Summary

The Instrumentation and Controls Division of the High Voltage Distribution (HVD) Engineering department delivers comprehensive, multi‑discipline engineering design and leadership for high‑voltage electric distribution projects associated with company‑owned and operated substations throughout Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The team is responsible for both in‑house and consultant‑led designs, supporting new substation construction as well as upgrades, repairs, and modifications to existing facilities. Key areas of focus include I&C designs (schematics, wiring, etc.),

project scoping, AC and DC load studies, procurement and construction support, and overall project execution. This position supports capital projects across the service territory.

• Support the role where I&C tasks fulfill the project engineer role, including creating Construction Scopes of Work (SOW), master document lists, scheduling and holding 30/60/90 reviews with all design disciplines, leading constructability reviews with the field, and supporting the field throughout commissioning as needed.
• Conduct site visits prior to engineering start to align with field teams.
• Maintain a broad understanding of other design disciplines while relying on subject‑matter experts (SMEs) to fill any technical gaps.

• Bachelor's degree in a field related to the utilities or electrical sector.
• Relevant experience and proficiency in basic computer programs such as the Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team setting with other engineers and related colleagues.
• Utilities experience preferred.
• Experience executing projects, including scheduling, budgets, and KPIs.
• Open to an I&C Engineer with a preference for the project engineer role.
• Personable and outgoing demeanor.
