Chief Financial Officer (Project Management)Under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer; this position oversees Business Operations inclusive Finance. This position assesses overall financial strengths and weaknesses, develops, plans and evaluates all financial services critical to organizational functioning, directs and coordinates activities and reporting of all finance, general accounting, cost/budget accounting, bookkeeping, claims, reimbursements, payroll and accounts payable/receivable consistent with federal, state, and local government working within the generally accepted accounting principles.
The CFO provides highly responsible and complex leadership support to the Chief Executive Officer for the overall benefit of Life Ways.
- Responsible to develop and oversee the implementation of departmental goals and objectives for Life Ways Finance Department with guidance from the Chief Executive Officer.
- Develops and oversees implementation of mechanisms for fiscal planning, including revenue determinations, cost determinations and cost containment for agency programs and contractors.
- Responsible for the preparation of the annual financial, single, and compliance audits of the Agency, including review necessary work papers and responding to requests from the auditors.
- Management of annual policy review and maintaining up-to-date procedures for the Finance department.
- Prepares all MDHHS (Michigan Department of Health and Human Services) reports, including FSRs (Financial Status Reporting), CCBHC ( Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics) Cost Reports, CRCS (Contract Reconciliation and Cash Settlement), and EQI (Encounter Quality Initiative) Report
- Responsible for the budget preparation process for the agency, with all Life Ways departments and monitoring departmental budgets.
- Prepares monthly financial reports for presentation to the Life Ways Board of Directors in their monthly Program & Finance standing committee.
- Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected financial position. Presents this information to Executive Leadership Team and Program & Finance committee as needed.
- Approves purchase orders for purchases.
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of finance; researches emerging products and enhancements and their applicability to Life Ways needs. This may require travel at unexpected times and generally occur in Jackson and Hillsdale counties, but travel within the State of Michigan may be necessary.
- Travels to meet regularly with community resources and MDHHS to ensure good working relationships, accurate information, and identifying and resolving barriers. - Provides leadership and direction, as well as coordinates the staffing and organizational activities for the Finance department. Responsible for day-to-day supervision, counseling, and discipline of staff, performance evaluations, initial 90-day period evaluations for new employees and annual thereafter.
- Fosters and promotes a customer-first attitude in the work habits of staff, to achieve a high level of user satisfaction.
- Stays current and maintains knowledge of trends, Risk Management rules and regulations, State and Federal level regulations, rules and laws regarding the mental health industry to ensure effective and efficient use of resources; ensures Life Ways meets all regulatory legal and accounting standards, communicating those standards to Leadership and Board members.
- Responsible for the strategic planning of the Finance department. Participates in the strategic planning process as a responsible member.
