Position SummaryThe Dietitian is part of the nutrition team that oversee the nutritional and dietary needs of the residents within Mission Point. They assist in the development of care plans, counseling, coordinating with other team members, and recommendations for diet orders/ nutritional supplementation. The dietitian ensures that nutritional requirements are incorporated into dining services production and operations, and provides overall planning, recommendations, documentation, and control of resident nutritional needs in the facility.
PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities
- Consult with physicians and health care personnel to assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to develop, implement, and document nutrition care plans in PCC and provide nutritional counseling.
- Advise residents and their families on nutritional principles, nutritional intervention plans and diet modifications, and food selection and preparation.
- Counsel individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life.
- Monitor food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, safety, sanitation and quality standards.
- Perform quality inspections of meals served for conformance to prescribed diets and standards of palatability and appearance.
- Advise Food and Nutrition Services Manager and organization on sanitation, safety procedures, budgeting, and planning to assist with the establishment, operation and evaluation of food service facilities and nutrition programs.
- Plan and conduct training programs in dietetics, nutrition, and institutional management and administration for dietetic interns, medical students, health-care personnel and the public.
- Attend management meetings and weekly nutrition at risk meetings.
- Perform discharge summaries and diet education for discharging residents.
- Consult with the Corporate Dietitian.
- Complete nutrition MDS.
- Assist with passing out meal trays.
- Investigate and address weight losses and weight gains in residents.
- Discuss resident weight differences with nursing management to address the issue. Follow up continually to ensure patient is meeting weight goals.
- Be able to effectively work with residents with various and altered mental statuses.
- Perform other duties or functions assigned.
- Must be a Registered Dietitian, or Register Eligible, or possess a Bachelor of Dietetics Degree.
- Completed an accredited Diabetic internship program.
- Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy in a hospital or long-term care facility.
- Ability to communicate effectively, analyze problems and identify practical solutions.
- Must be able to relate to older adults.
- Ability to organize and perform assignments with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with others in the department and facility.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate well and work with families, volunteers, and the public.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Basic computer knowledge is required.
Special Requirements
- Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment.
- Ability to travel as needed or assigned.
