Job Overview

C.R. Jackson, Inc. seeks a skilled and safety‑conscious Water Truck Operator to join our highway civil construction team. As a Water Truck Operator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the proper maintenance and application of water to support construction activities, adhering to SCDOT specifications and company standards. The ideal candidate will hold a CDL with a tanker endorsement, pass a DOT physical and drug screening, and have a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Previous experience in highway civil construction is preferred, and a willingness to travel within the state is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Pre/Post Trip Inspections:
    Conduct thorough pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of the water truck to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Hydrant Operation:
    Capable of independently filling the water truck at hydrant locations, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Reclaimer Connection:
    Responsible for connecting the water truck to the reclaimer, ensuring proper setup and functionality.
  • Roadway Spraying:
    Apply water to the finished roadway as directed by the construction team, contributing to dust control and supporting construction activities.
  • Dump Truck Operation:
    Operate a dump truck in tandem with a chip spreader as directed, assisting in various construction tasks.
  • Tool Safety:
    Understand and adhere to basic hand tool safety protocols, ensuring the safe use and storage of tools as required.
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Demonstrate excellent listening and communication skills to effectively coordinate tasks with the construction team and other operators.
  • Safety Compliance:
    Strictly adhere to company safety standards and protocols, promoting a culture of safety awareness and responsibility.
Physical Demands
  • Regular physical effort, including standing and walking, is required during a regular shift.
  • Able to stoop, bend, reach with hands and arms, crouch, and kneel as required for the tanker's operation and/or maintenance.
  • Possess the ability to withstand long periods of sitting when driving.
  • Work with hands to operate the truck controls.
  • Must have the ability to carry and lift 50 pounds.
  • Maintain alertness to the motion and activities of people and other equipment on the construction site.
  • Will be required to walk on uneven surfaces on the job site frequently.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of the equipment safely.
  • Will be required to work in varying weather conditions and environments, including hot or cold temperatures and dusty, wet, noisy, etc.
  • Will be required to work on job sites close to live lanes of traffic.
Qualifications
  • Valid CDL with tanker endorsement.
  • Successful completion of DOT physical and drug screening.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Preferred experience in highway civil construction.
  • Willingness to travel within the state.
  • Knowledge of basic hand tool safety and usage.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
