Position: Sediment Remediation Specialist (Engineer, Scientist or Geologist)

Overview

CDM Smith's Environmental Services Group is seeking an Engineer, Scientist or Geologist with experience modeling contaminant transport through sediment caps and/or a working knowledge of CAD in remediation projects, combined with basic geotechnical engineering experience related to remediation projects located anywhere within the United States.

The candidate must have demonstrated expertise working independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team on remediation projects for a variety of clients including those in the Federal and Public sector. Candidates with more extensive experience may be considered for a higher grade level than what is proposed for this advertisement.

Responsibilities
  • Understanding the scientific and engineering principles of modeling contaminant fate and transport through sediment caps in subaqueous systems. Experience with Cap Sim is preferred.
  • Using CAD to develop drawings for contaminated sediment dredging and/or soil excavation projects, including the ability to follow direction from a senior engineer with minimal oversight.
  • Performing slope stability modeling.
  • Developing field sampling programs and performing data analyses to support conceptual site models, mass balances, and data-based understanding of fate and transport processes, including interpretation of sediment cores and bathymetric surveys.
  • Developing, calibrating, and applying numerical and/or desktop models.
  • Evaluating the feasibility of sediment remediation technologies and assisting in the development of sediment remediation designs for large sites involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Serving as CDM Smith’s primary interface with clients on complicated sediment tasks; assessing problems and communicating a technical strategy to the client.

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Travel frequency depends on duties and workload. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Science or Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
    • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam where applicable within 18 months of hire or promotion.
