Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: North East England (Hybrid)
An established engineering business is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of complex, multi–component engineered products.
This role is suited to an experienced design engineer who has delivered products from concept through detailed design, manufacture, testing, and release, working on assemblies with multiple interfaces, tolerances, and functional requirements.
If you are a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with experience designing complex, multi–part equipment from concept to manufacture, this role offers a strong opportunity to apply your expertise in a technically engaging environment and truly own the development of a new product from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities- Mechanical design of complex, multi–part assemblies and equipment
- End–to–end involvement in the full product development lifecycle
- Concept design, layout, and detailed design using 3D CAD
- Production of detailed manufacturing drawings and BOMs
- Design for manufacture and assembly (DFM / DFA)
- Tolerance analysis and interface management
- Support of prototype build, testing, verification, and design iteration
- Participation in design reviews and technical decision–making
- Liaison with manufacturing, suppliers, and cross–functional teams
- Senior–level experience in mechanical or product design engineering
- Proven delivery of multi–component mechanical systems or assemblies
- Strong 3D CAD skills (Solid Works, Creo, Catia, NX, or similar)
- Experience working through concept, detailed design, and release to manufacture
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, sheet metal, moulding, assembly)
- Understanding of tolerancing, fits, materials, and mechanical interfaces
- Experience working in structured engineering or regulated environments
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to electromechanical or mechatronic products
- Experience supporting testing, validation, and verification activities
- Involvement in design authority, mentoring, or technical leadership
- Background in industrial equipment, special purpose machinery, or engineered products
- Technically complex mechanical design work
- Long–term engineering role with long term progression potential
- Hands–on involvement across the full design lifecycle
