This Time-Limited (NS-14) position will perform a variety of duties:- Supervise all regional managers (regions 1 through
4) in the Dam Safety Division. - Spearhead enforcement and compliance of dams throughout the state of Mississippi.
- Communicate with Dam Owners regarding regulatory standards and the maintenance and operation of dams.
- Work with Division Chief to review work plans and implement statewide permitting, compliance, and enforcement priorities and objectives
- Establish and enforce data QA/QC measures to ensure accurate and timely input to Dam Safety database system
- Resolve issues that arise and make Division Chief aware of issues
- Assist in response to emergency dam failures/incidents
- Assist with oversight of applicable FEMA Grants, subgrantees, deliverables, reports, etc...
- Perform Inspections of construction and/or modification activities for dams.
- Review plans and specifications for the construction and/or modification of dams.
- Perform engineering analysis to determine the performance of dams.
- Assist in performing periodic inspections of dams.
- Should possess a basic understanding of hydrology and hydraulic flow.
- Must be able to communicate with others in an effective manner in a variety of situations.
- Should possess reasonable organizational skills allowing them to track progress on multiple projects.
- Is able to work after hours and be on call in the evening.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree, a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and 6+ years of engineering experience.
