To oversee and administer chemical, biological, radiation, and/or laser safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, institutional policies, and industry standards. Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs; conducting inspections and risk assessments; providing technical guidance and regulatory oversight; and designing, developing, and delivering formal and informal education and training programs that promote safety awareness, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance.

Required:
Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of work experience in environmental health and safety, chemical safety, biological safety, radiation safety, laboratory safety, or hazardous materials management
- Valid US Driver’s License.
- DOT certification for shipping hazardous goods is required post-hire within one (1) year.
One (1) year of radiation safety experience in a medical institution under the supervision of a Radiation Safety Officer.
Preferred CertificationsCertified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO) certification through the Board of Laser Safety (BLS)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of chemical, biological, and/or radiation safety principles, standards, protocols, hazardous materials management, laboratory operations, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Skill in conducting safety inspections, assessing regulatory compliance, investigating incidents, preparing technical reports, delivering safety training, and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data; develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships; assess and mitigate risks; work safely in environments involving hazardous chemical, biological, or radiological materials while using appropriate personal protective equipment; and respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Develop, implement, and administer chemical, biological, radiation, and/or laser safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and institutional policies.
- Conduct inspections, audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews of facilities, laboratories, equipment, and operations involving hazardous materials and safety-sensitive activities.
- Provide technical guidance regarding the safe use, handling, storage, transport, and disposal of hazardous chemicals, biological materials, radioactive materials, and related waste.
- Develop and deliver safety training and educational programs to promote regulatory compliance and safe work practices.
- Investigate safety incidents, accidents, spills, exposures, and compliance concerns; recommend and monitor corrective actions.
- Respond to emergencies involving chemical, biological, radiological, or laser hazards and coordinate appropriate response activities.
- Review and evaluate research, clinical, instructional, and operational activities to ensure adherence to safety requirements and best practices.
- Maintain required records, inventories, permits, reports, and documentation associated with assigned safety programs.
- Advise management on regulatory requirements, emerging safety issues, risk mitigation strategies, and program improvements.
- Prepare reports, analyze safety trends, and recommend measures to enhance workplace safety and program effectiveness.
