About the Agency

In 1938, the Mississippi Legislature passed the Soil Conservation Law to combat a critical decline in soil resources caused by systemic land misuse. Recognizing the potential for ecological disaster, this legislation established the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission as a state agency and authorized the creation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts as legal subdivisions of state government. This framework ensures a coordinated, localized approach to preserving the state’s natural resources and agricultural productivity.

  • Governance:
    Oversee the election and appointment processes for District Commissioners.
  • Program Management:
    Facilitate the delivery and administration of state-funded cost-share programs.
  • Public Engagement:
    Coordinate and lead outreach and educational initiatives to promote conservation awareness.
What You'll Need to Be Successful

The successful candidate will possess a background in agricultural or natural resource management and a deep commitment to conservation. This role requires a highly organized professional capable of working independently, communicating effectively, and maintaining a proactive, solution-oriented approach to the state’s environmental challenges.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources, or a related field, supplemented by zero (0) to one (1) year of professional experience. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite—specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint— is required to manage administrative tasks effectively.
