About the AgencyThe Mississippi Department of Transportation is responsible for providing a safe intermodal transportation network that is planned, designed, constructed, and maintained in an effective, cost efficient, and environmentally sensitive manner.
This is third-level professional program audit work. Work involves performing considerably complex desk and field audits to ascertain facts regarding agency programs. Incumbents prepare reports of activities, maintain accurate records of findings, and testify in court or administrative hearings as necessary. The work requires frequent contact with other governmental agencies, professional associations, and the general public. Incumbents are required to exercise considerable independent judgment, manage multiple on-going investigations, and demonstrate strong time-management skills.
Incumbents use expertise to train new auditors in desk and field investigations. The work requires frequent contact with other governmental agencies, professional associations, and medical professionals. This position requires the utilization of intuition, logic, analytical ability, technical knowledge, and both written and oral communication skills. This position is responsible for applying auditing, coding, and social science research methods to evaluate and identify any suspicious billing practices.
This posting is for the position of Program Auditor III with MDOT’s Contract Administration Division’s Final Plans Section. MDOT’s Final Plans Section focuses on auditing and evaluating final data submissions from the field offices for accuracy and completion, allowing for facilitation of the final estimate process. The candidate will be responsible for the receiving, prioritizing, storing, and auditing of final documentation submissions;
as well as generation of the final estimate to be sent to the contractor. The candidate will also be called on to help with various other tasks in the Contract Administration Division. Ideal candidates for this job should possess strong organizational and analytical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary as the candidate will be frequently communicating with other MDOT divisions, field office personnel, and contractor’s representatives.

The candidate needs to possess adequate skills in mathematics to be able to process numerous often intricate calculations. Also, the candidate needs to be internally driven to be able to work individually as well as to be able to work in a team environment.
Preferred QualificationsTypically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3-6 years of experience. Agency preferred qualifications:
Candidate experience with Microsoft Office products is preferred.
