The Surgical Technologist 3 prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures. Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures. Performs pre-operation preparations to the patient's skin, body and medical equipment. May be required to transport patient to and from the operating room. Works under general supervision.

• Ensure proper equipment, instruments and supplies are provided for procedures and specialty areas.
• Maintain a well organized sterile setup/field at all times contributing to smooth operations.
• Anticipate and respond timely with efficiency when performing assignments.
• Follow proper sterile techniques and maintain a sterile field at all times.
• Provide assistance to the circulating RN with procedure/patient preparation.
• Working knowledge of autoclaves and consistent sterilization methods.
• Follow the proper procedure for counting instruments, sponges and sharps.
• Instrumentation is checked for accuracy prior to procedure for proper functionality and maintained throughout procedure.
• Capable of competently scrubbing complex cases across all facility specialties.
• Demonstrates expert knowledge of surgical equipment and advances surgical instrumentation within major specialties.
• Ensure patients are transported safely and timely; assist in positioning.
• Follow AORN guidelines and collaborate with team.
• Assist with OR staff during room turnovers, call shifts and emergency procedures.
• Mentor new team members and conduct annual competency assessments.

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
• Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or 1 year of surgical tech experience substitutes.
• Subject matter expert in surgical subspecialty.
• BLS Certification.
• Certification as Surgical Technologist.
• Experience providing in-services/education and participating in performance improvement projects.
