Physical Therapy Assistant
Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, provides physical therapy treatment as established by the Physical Therapist to meet specific measurable goals. Reports to Clinical Coordinator.
Responsibilities- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Assists the Physical Therapist during patient testing, evaluations and procedures.
- Carries out a treatment program for assigned patients, as determined by the evaluation performed by the Physical Therapist.
- Designs and fits adaptive devices such as orthotics, mobility aids and tools based on patient disability and rehabilitation needs.
- Teaches patients/family the skills and techniques required for participation in Physical Therapy, adapting the instruction and techniques to meet the comprehension level of the patients/family.
- Reports any changes in a patient's condition to the supervising Physical Therapist and assists in updating treatment plans.
- Maintains adequate records within the medical record regarding patient responses to treatment techniques.
- Supervises Rehabilitation Technicians and Aides appropriately. Maintains communication with physicians, via verbal and written reports, regarding patient treatment.
- Conducts or participates in in‑service training as needed for other hospital personnel.
- Participates in educational programs and in‑service meetings.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
- Education:
Associate's degree and graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program required. - Experience:
Prior training or experience in a related environment is preferred. - Special
Skills:
Demonstrates ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical conditions, age groups (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle‑aged and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures. - License/Cert:
Must be certified as a PTA and hold Mississippi state licensure as required.
