ORGANIZATION

Tragedy brings many to MRC, but it’s not a place where it triumphs. Founded in 1975, MRC is Mississippi’s only comprehensive rehabilitation hospital featuring programs specifically designed to treat people who have had a stroke, brain, or spinal injury. MRC is recognized as a national leader in providing extraordinary rehabilitation healthcare. MRC is accredited by The Joint Commission and CARF, the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities.

MRC has been named one of America’s Best by U.S. News and World Report and one of only 16 Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems in the nation.

MRC is an independent nonprofit rehabilitation health system sponsored by the Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church. MRC is affiliated with the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) fostering collaboration in research, both staff the UMMC Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and provide a coordinated plan of treatment for patients transitioning from acute care to the rehab setting.

MRC provides clinical care for brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, post-amputation, neurological disease, joint and back pain, and orthopedics. MRC consists of a seven-story 124 bed hospital, orthotics & prosthetics, three outpatient therapy clinics, a residential care facility designed for younger severely disabled people, and the Center for Neuroscience and Neurological Recovery its research division. In addition, MRC is supported by the Wilson Research Foundation, a 501(3)(C) focused on building research and education programs to advance the clinical practice of neurorehabilitation.

MRC, Mississippi’s flagship provider of rehabilitation services believes that providing access is paramount. Because of this, MRC has launched an ambitious plan for expansion. MRC recently opened an Orthopedic Clinic in Gluckstadt; plans are underway for a multi-specialty clinic in Clinton;
Orthopedics & Prosthetics is adding a ninth outpatient clinic in Tupelo; and MRC's Flowood Campus has been enhanced with an interventional pain management physician. As did most in healthcare, MRC faced the challenge of staff shortages and inflated expenses in 2022. In 2023, MRC embarked on a plan to stabilize the organization. In fiscal year 2023, MRC transitioned to a position of stability, both operationally and financially exceeding expectations.
