Position Overview

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) is seeking a Museum Support Technician to join the Information Systems Section within the Administration Division. This position plays a key role in ensuring that MDAH staff have reliable, effective, and responsive technology resources to support the agency's mission and daily operations.

The Museum Support Technician provides frontline technical support to end users throughout the organization, both on-site and remotely. The position supports, maintains, and troubleshoots end-user technology equipment, including desktop computers, laptops, printers, communication devices, and related peripherals. The technician assists employees with a wide range of technical issues, from routine requests to more complex problems, by identifying causes, determining appropriate solutions, and providing timely technical assistance.

The agency manages service requests through its helpdesk ticketing system. The Museum Support Technician accurately documents troubleshooting activities, actions taken, and resolutions in the system to maintain complete, reliable service records. The Museum Support Technician appropriately escalates issues requiring advanced technical expertise or specialized assistance to senior Information Systems staff to ensure timely, effective resolution.

The Museum Support Technician provides comprehensive end-user support within an office automation and office systems environment and assists with the deployment, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of technology resources. The position also provides technical support for museum and agency programs, events, and operations as needed.

Because MDAH operates museums and public programs outside of traditional business hours, this position requires a rotating weekend and after-hours schedule. The technician will participate in a rotating schedule with other Information Systems staff to provide technology support and coverage for scheduled evening, weekend, and weekend-night programs and events. The anticipated regular work schedule will be Wednesday through Sunday to provide adequate technology coverage for museum operations.

The schedule may vary based on agency programs, special events, operational needs, and the established staff rotation.

What you'll need to be Successful

Strong customer service and communication skills, sound troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Information Systems staff. The position requires a service-oriented approach and the ability to prioritize and respond effectively to competing technical support needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires High School Diploma or high school equivalency and relevant technical knowledge, an understanding of office automation and office systems operating environments and/or complex communication devices and 1-3 years of end user support experience. AGENCY

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

relevant technical knowledge, and an understanding of office automation, office systems, operating environments, and/or complex communication devices.
