Road Manager

Summary

This is a professional administrative position responsible for planning and directing the activities of a major department. The incumbent coordinate's activities involving road and bridge construction and maintenance, engineering and related activities in accordance with general administrative policies adopted by the Board of Supervisors. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing the department's budget, a four (4) year road program and all administrative activities associated or assigned to the department.

The incumbent ensures all activities are performed in conformity with State Statutes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Plans, coordinates, and supervises the work of the department.

Develops and maintains a system to evaluate the performance of department units.

Prepares and supervises department budget.

Supervises the activities associated with subdivision plan review and construction or physical components.

Coordinates the development and continuous updating of a four (4) year road program.

Inspects or supervises the inspection of roads and bridges prior to projects over $25,000 and carefully note the character and amount of work needed.

Answers questions from contractors and public.

Secure Right-of-Ways for road projects.

Develops and maintains a management information system.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Possession of a certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers

or

A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and five (5) years professional experience in an administrative capacity related to the above-described duties.

or

A high school diploma with ten (10) years related experience and five (5) years professional experience in an administrative capacity related to the above described duties.
