Job summary includes assessing patient care needs and providing anesthetic care for surgical patients. Administer medically directed or supervised local, general, inhalation, regional, intravenous, monitored and other anesthetics for surgical, obstetrical, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Preoperative consultation with patients regarding anesthetic needs, monitoring patients' reaction to anesthesia, and adjusting care accordingly.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of agents, equipment, procedures and techniques for the provision of anesthesia for patients.
- Provide patient care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating treatments and procedures.
- Evaluate patients preoperatively to assess physical status and anesthetic risks; prepare for anesthetic treatment.
- Administer medically directed anesthetics during surgical, obstetric, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
- Respond to critical patient care needs related to invasive monitoring, IV access, and airway management.
- Conduct pre- and post-anesthesia evaluations including explanation of plan, obtaining informed consent, and follow-up on any postoperative complications.
- Educate, instruct, and mentor student nurse anesthetists, residents and other allied health professionals.
- Contribute to the professional development of peers and others upon request.
- Report case-based quality and safety issues and develop and evaluate improvement measures to ensure safety and performance improvement.

Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments such as high noise levels and exposure to heat and cold, handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, exposure to biohazardous conditions, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals. May include hours beyond regularly scheduled hours, travel to offsite locations, and variable patient volume. Routine activities may involve lifting or carrying and other physical requirements;
include occasional bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, standing and walking for extended periods.
Graduate of an accredited CRNA program and current certification as a certified registered nurse anesthetist from the Mississippi Board of Nursing or another state, or, if a student, within 180 days (last semester) of graduation. Must be a CRNA at the time of hire.
Certifications, Licenses or RegistrationMust be a certified registered nurse anesthetist at the time of hire.
