Position: Patient Access Representative (Non-Exempt) - PT, Days

Overview

Patient Access Representative (Non-Exempt) - PT, Days. The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for patients and must represent Mercy with the highest standard of customer service, compassion, and alignment with Mercy mission, values, and Service Standards. The role facilitates all components of a patient’s entrance into Mercy facilities, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance (including pre-visit collection).

The position requires accurate data collection and entry into the patient record, exceptional attention to detail, and knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate patient entry into Mercy facilities including scheduling, registration, and pre-visit activities.
  • Verify benefits, arrange pre-certification, and obtain financial clearance including pre-visit collections.
  • Ensure accuracy of patient data in the patient record.
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and applicable regulatory standards.
Qualifications
  • Experience and

    Education:

    1-3 years of clerical and customer service experience preferred. Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred. High School diploma required; some college helpful.
  • Skills:

    Excellent oral and written communication; strong telephone etiquette; ability to establish positive working relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and non-clinical staff, and insurance companies.
  • Organizational:
    Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to work under stress, meet deadlines, and maintain high accuracy.
  • Technical:
    Proficient with computer systems; ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard.
Physical Requirements
  • Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
