Overview

The Technical Engineering & Quality Leader is responsible for leading process optimization efforts while managing a team of engineering salaried direct reports and taking organizational responsibility for multi-process focus to maximize productivity. This role creates plans, strategizes, and evaluates quality assurance processes by examining systems, measures, and statistical techniques. It ensures process optimization, TPM tool utilization, successful glass chemistry, waste reduction, and the implementation of engineering solutions for long-term proactive success.

This position is a member of the Plant Natural Leadership Team (NLT).

Jackson is part of Owens Corning’s North America Nonwovens business and manufactures glass reinforcements and non-woven building materials used to create a diverse platform of components. The plant has 5 salaried and 5 hourly direct reports and 8 hourly indirect reports, with a total of 220 employees.

Responsibilities

Lead safety and security for an injury-free work environment

  • Ensure a culture that enables a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Demonstrate passion and care for people and lead from a safety-focused perspective aligned with business objectives.
  • Ensure control plans, work instructions, and procedures related to the technical operation of the production lines protect employee safety.
  • Maintain a clear and effective measurement system to drive results; reward and celebrate safe behavior and achievements; ensure accountability.

Support the facility through a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) operating system

  • Aim for zero injuries, zero defects, and zero losses.

Know the business and our customers

  • Ensure customer satisfaction is paramount in designing, implementing, and maintaining processes and quality systems.
  • Identify, understand, and teach others the critical product characteristics required to deliver a quality product.
  • Develop and implement procedures and systems to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Support experiments or trials for new and existing products to ensure they meet customer fitness for use.
  • Investigate all customer complaints, determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and communicate with the customer.

Technical Excellence and Process Optimization

  • Identify, lead, and implement process development improvements using TPM methodologies.
  • Lead Focused Improvement (FI) Pillar to provide direction for process improvement projects.
  • Participate in scoping and execution of major projects to meet safety, performance, schedule, and cost goals using EM principles and MOC.
  • Set clear, measurable expectations aligned with plant goals; proactively analyze and manage performance metrics.
  • Share accountability for the plant operating plan with other plant leaders and communicate objectives to drive results.
  • Understand customer requirements and the relationship to plant process variables to ensure products meet Fit For Use.
  • Develop, evaluate, improve, and document manufacturing processes/controls using TPM methodology.
  • Develop and meet milestones; collaborate with all levels; contribute technically to process solutions.
  • Apply statistical methods/data analytics to estimate future manufacturing needs.
  • Coordinate and utilize OC NW Center of Excellence (COE) for sharing best practices and technical expertise.

Lead and Develop Talent

  • Create an environment where talent is developed and potential is realized.
  • Foster a positive, diverse, and collaborative environment; support talent reviews and development for sustained success.
  • Assist the Plant Leader with other duties as required.

Development and Execution of Strategy

  • Develop scope and budget for growth initiatives; analyze investment risks and mitigate accordingly.
  • Lead contracting and execution strategy for large/complex CAPEX projects; identify and evaluate new technologies.
  • Champion environmentally friendly production processes and cost-effective manufacturing to stay competitive.
Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience

  • 7–10 years of progressive technical experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading or participating in cross-functional teams outside manufacturing.
