The position is responsible for directing and coordinating activities of the Product Engineering department including all areas of design, manufacturing, test components, products, and systems by performing the following duties personally or through the team.
Responsibilities- Direct department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
- Resolve problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- Analyze technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.
- Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
- Forecast operating costs of department and direct preparation of budget requests.
- Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and inter-departmental relations.
- Provide direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.
- Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develop recommendations accordingly.
- Be involved in new product gate reviews and review all new jobs for proper documentation and that customer needs are addressed, as well as identifying ongoing needs for new and existing work.
- Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed safely.
- Provide staff leadership, support, setting of goals and objectives, performance reviews, salary planning, career development and training.
- Act as a coach to create energized and motivated teams.

- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree desirable
- 5+ years of experience in product engineering within a manufacturing environment
- Strong leadership, project planning, and ability to adopt new technologies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and SAP
- Proficiency in CAD & CAD/CAM software; experience with specialized engineering software a plus
- Ability to implement plans, communicate changes effectively, and build commitments
- Strong problem solving, analytical, and customer service orientation
- Ability to work well in a team, take initiative, and communicate across all levels
