Job Description

Job Summary: The Product Engineering Manager directs and coordinates all activities of the Product Engineering department, encompassing design, manufacturing, testing of components, products, and systems. Responsibilities include both direct leadership and delegation to engineering teams.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Direct department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
  • Resolve problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  • Analyze technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.
  • Confere with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Forecast operating costs of the department and direct preparation of budget requests.
  • Advises management of new developments that may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and inter‑departmental relations.
  • Provide direction and example for the interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to engineering activities.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies that may improve operations, and develop recommendations accordingly.
  • Be involved in new‑product gate reviews and review all new jobs to ensure proper documentation and that customer needs are addressed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties are performed safely.
  • Provide staff leadership, support, goal setting, performance reviews, salary planning, career development, and training.
  • Act as a coach, creating energized and motivated teams.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree desirable.
  • 5+ years of product engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent leadership skills, including project planning and adoption of new technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and SAP.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and experience with specialized engineering software a plus.
