Overview

The facility Sr. Environmental Health and Safety Lead is responsible for building a site culture with an unconditional stance on safety and environmental compliance. The role manages the development, implementation, and evaluation of SIF and critical safety programs along with other health and environmental processes to achieve and maintain a zero-injury environment. It involves identifying, eliminating, and controlling hazardous conditions that may lead to injury or property damage, applying safety standards, best practices, and behavioral safety programs, and engaging employees at all levels to sustain a world-class safety and environmental program.

The role is a critical member of the steering team, providing guidance and coaching in safety and environmental stewardship and acting as the subject matter expert at the assigned facility to build sitewide EHS capability. The position is onsite in Jackson, TN.

Key Metrics include recordable incident rate (RIR), percentage of satisfactory audits for SIF programs and safety foundations, deficiencies in internal H&S audits, and on-time environmental reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Risk prevention across all areas by identifying and documenting potential hazards (e.g., material exposures, accidents, near-misses, fires, environmental spills, and non-compliance). Notify appropriate parties and stakeholders for corrective action, preventive controls, and training as needed.
  • Proactively identify hazards in manufacturing processes, equipment, and materials. Conduct formal risk assessments and develop and implement control measures to mitigate risks, ensuring a safe working environment. Regularly update risk assessments to reflect changes in operations and maintain compliance with evolving standards.
  • Conduct timely and thorough EHS incident investigations (including workers’ compensation matters). Analyze incidents to identify root causes and corrective actions; notify appropriate parties and document findings.
  • Provide support to facility team members on EHS awareness, emergency training, evacuation planning, emergency response, policy interpretation, safety audits, and environmental inspections. Ensure completion of the training plan and certified competence of all trained employees.
  • Develop and update Critical Safety Foundations and SIF Programs, and support the development of other EHS programs in collaboration with site leadership and Insulation Business Unit EHS.
  • Develop innovative solutions and drive sustainability goals through partnership with key stakeholders and site teams.
  • Maintain documentation and retention for EHS and Safety training requirements.
  • Ensure environmental reporting and compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Champion the Safety Pillar and act as a resource to subcommittees; monitor and improve EHS actions and programs to maintain high safety and environmental awareness.
  • Coach and mentor personnel to prioritize EHS goals, reinforce the company's safety and environmental compliance stance, and recognize employee contributions. Educate team members on safe operations for new processes or modifications.
  • Serve as initial EHS contact for the Jackson team to review potential environmental, health, and safety impacts of product innovations.
  • Maintain a leadership presence, influence behaviors, and fully engage employees in the safety process; participate in continuous improvement activities (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, Lean Daily Management, Waste Elimination, Visual Factory, Six Sigma).
  • Drive and support change management and engagement in EHS matters; translate safety and health strategies into results.
  • Maintain and update EHS information (charts, graphs) and communicate metrics. Oversee the site SDS system.
