The Systems Administrator is responsible for evaluating, designing, implementing, managing, troubleshooting, and documenting server resources, directory services, messaging services, network services, network applications, and security services. The Systems Administrator assists IT staff in providing advanced technical support for workstation hardware and software issues as well as support for database development, network connectivity issues, server operating system and configuration issues, and other support issues as they may arise.
Job Duties- Design, install, configure, administer, troubleshoot, patch, and document server resources and procedures such as server hardware, server operating systems, infrastructure storage, print queues, file shares on Windows and Linux platforms, power consumption and protection devices (uninterruptible power units), the data center’s physical infrastructure (racks, appliances, KVM, fiber switches, cabling), backup systems, and ~150 virtual servers (VMWare and Hyper‑V).
- Create shell scripts (bash, Power Shell, PHP) to provide task automation and schedule tasks such as account provisioning and deprovisioning, notification of password expiration, creating mailboxes in Office 365, and manipulating Active Directory (such as moving large numbers of users between groups given a common characteristic and synchronizing AD with Banner).
- Assist students and staff with technical issues.
- Design, install, configure, administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and document messaging services, Barracuda anti‑spam system (blocks outbound SSN and credit card numbers, incoming viruses, and spam), and other Office 365 applications.
- Design, install, configure, administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and document Active Directory Services (maintaining architecture, group policies, accounts, and security groups) for three sites (Lexington, Savannah, Trenton).
- Design, install, configure, administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and document security services (Intune management systems management, manage engine logging, SIEM and SOC management, Microsoft A5 security licensing management).
- Design, install, configure, administer, maintain, troubleshoot, and document the Forti Gate firewall system (network routing, policies, antivirus, web filtering, intrusion prevention and detection services, application control [blocking applications such as peer‑to‑peer file sharing apps], and VPN [remote access to our network]), as well as assist with other networking issues.
- Design, install, configure, administer, maintain, troubleshoot, document, network appliances.
- AS degree with 3‑5 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems or related field with 1‑3 years of experience.
- A working knowledge of desktop hardware and software, common operating systems such as Windows 11, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and WINS services. The person should have experience in managing server resources running Windows Server operating systems with Active Directory services and Linux operating systems.
- Able to manage email services such as Microsoft Exchange and Office 365.
- Able to write scripts using Power Shell and PHP, have experience with relational databases such as MySQL and Microsoft SQL, and should be familiar with common networking technologies.
- Familiar with hypervisors such as VMWare and Hyper‑V.
- Linux operating systems such as Ubuntu or Red Hat.
- Experience with Windows desktop and server operating systems, such as Windows 11, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022.
- Knowledge of Power Shell, Bash and PHP scripting.
- Experience managing and supporting Active Directory (2012/2016/2022).
- Experience managing and supporting Exchange Server and Office 365 (mail).
- Knowledge of Database Systems such as MySQL, MS‑SQL and Oracle.
- Experience with workstation and server hardware, printers, scanners, RAID, NAS, SAN, fiber connectivity, and disk‑based backup systems.
