Job OverviewUnder general direction, provides information, data, legal advice, and support for the general counsel and other program areas. Supervisory attorney overseeing lower-level attorneys and support staff. Assist in providing legal advice and recommendations on the most complex legal issues. Directs and coordinates legal programs or major division of state agency. Provides hands on counsel to all levels of executive staff and assists in protecting an agency's legal interest and maintaining its operations within the scope established by law.
This class differs from that of the Associate Counsel, who performs work of lesser scope and complexity.
- Advises on legal, regulatory, procedural, and/or personnel matters for an assigned department, and assists in the planning and research of special projects.
- Review, research, interpret, and prepares both written and oral opinions on a wide variety of legal issues.
- Drafts, reviews, and approves policies and procedures, regulations, bylaws, and other legal documents.
- Acts as a liaison for an assigned office or person, and/or may supervise legal work of assigned Staff.
- Prepares materials for presentations, speeches, and informational forums.
Active License to practice law in Tennessee is required.
Preferred Experience5+ years of relevant legal experience
