Advanced Practice Nurse/APRN, Healthcare Nursing, Nurse Practitioner
Contract role
· Telehealth · $67–$105 per hour
· NC, SC, IL, CT, TN, PA, NY and RI
You’d provide psychiatric evaluations and medication management by video for clients located in North Carolina, South Carolina, Illinois, Connecticut, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, New York and Rhode Island. This is new for us. Today New Reflections Counseling prescribes only in Florida, New Jersey and Colorado, and this role extends medication management into these eight states.
This role does not prescribe controlled substances. You’d manage non-controlled psychiatric medications only. You can cover one state or several. If you’re already licensed in New York or Connecticut and have 3,600 or more hours of NP practice, we especially want to hear from you.
- Psychiatric evaluations and management of non-controlled medications by telehealth
- Coordinating care with the NRC therapist who’s seeing the same client, with the client’s consent
- Keeping your own notes and prescribing within each state’s rules
- National board certification as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (for example, ANCC PMHNP-BC)
- At least two years of practice as a PMHNP. This role doesn’t include precepting, so you’ll need to be ready to practice without a preceptor from your first visit.
- An RN license and an APRN/NP license in that state, with prescriptive authority, or a willingness to get them
- An active DEA registration, required in every state you cover except Rhode Island, or a willingness to get one before you start, plus the state’s own controlled-substance registration where it comes before the DEA (Connecticut, Illinois and South Carolina). You’ll need these even though this role doesn’t prescribe controlled substances. Rhode Island doesn’t issue a controlled-substance registration or DEA registration to out-of-state telehealth prescribers, and none is needed there for non-controlled prescribing.
- Your own collaborating or supervising physician, licensed in that state and in place before you start, where the state requires one. NRC does not provide one. North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Tennessee always require one. New York requires one until you have 3,600 hours of NP practice. Connecticut requires one for your first 3 years and 2,000 hours. Illinois requires one unless you hold Full Practice Authority.
In South Carolina the physician must practice inside the state. In Tennessee the physician must practice psychiatry and review your charts monthly. In Rhode Island, nurse practitioners practice independently, so no collaborating physician is required. You’ll need a Rhode Island APRN license; medication management there is limited to non-controlled medications. - Your own malpractice coverage for telehealth in every state you cover, with limits of at least $1 million/$3 million
- The ability to be credentialed with insurance plans as a prescriber: an individual NPI, a CAQH profile (or a willingness to set one up), no exclusion from Medicare, Medicaid or other federal health programs, and a license record insurers will accept. The practice handles the credentialing paperwork.
- Telehealth experience helps
Scheduling, billing and insurance credentialing.
