Position: Field Supervisor (Richland, VA) AIP3997

A Field Supervisor is responsible for overseeing a team of field technicians. Supervisor duties include relaying information between their team and upper management, guiding and providing support to their team through assigned work orders, and monitoring technician performance to ensure maximum productivity and accomplish metric performance goals.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises direct and functional reports. Coaches and monitors the performance of employees to established goals and objectives.
  • Inspects the quality of work of in-house technicians and contractors regularly, ensuring that all standards (federal, state, and Company) are followed.
  • Develops and implements appropriate methods, practices, policies, and procedures; informs employees of changed processes.
  • Review and analyze service, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with specifications.
  • Develops and assigns work schedules.
  • Ensures that resources (i.e., vehicles, equipment, and inventory) are maintained in proper working order.
  • Maintain open communications with other departments.
  • Analyze needs and designs for fiber construction projects.
  • Perform field walkouts as required.
  • Coordinate with engineers and developers in designing the plant; draw and sketch installation and location of equipment and cable; complete bill of materials (BOM) needed for planned construction or fiber span replacements.
  • Practices Company safety policies and procedures and ensures they are followed.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or
  • 2-5 Years Technical experience in splicing and troubleshooting fiber.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel, and Smartsheet.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure.
  • Ability to manage emergencies and rapidly changing priorities, and to effectively direct the work activities of others under all work conditions.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings.
  • Ability to read, edit, and understand fiber optic designs and/or schematics.
  • Knowledge of the physical construction and design of aerial and underground cable plant, including coax & fiber.
  • Basic knowledge of various fiber cable builds (FTTU, MDU/SDU, Nodes, Metro-E, etc.c).
  • Basic knowledge of the operation of a signal level meter, OT, DR, and optical light meters.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds is required.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • 2-5 Years Supervisory with steady work history preferred.
