Position Summary
:
Performs a variety of duties related to the construction and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution facilities, such as installing, repairing, replacing, inspecting, and removing equipment and materials, without supervision.
Education/Experience
:
High school diploma (GED) with six years as a Journeyman Lineman (includes time served as an Apprentice Lineman).
Skills/Abilities
:
Qualified to perform all aspects of the work without supervision. Excellent customer relations and problem-solving skills. Must maintain good public relations and good working relations with other personnel. Proficient in various computer applications such as Microsoft Suite and mobile workforce software. Working knowledge of GIS mapping software. Competent computer literacy using various types of hardware, including desktops, laptops, and tablets.
Must have excellent background in working with heavy construction equipment.
- Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship for the Occupation of Lineman from the Department of Labor.
- Certificate of Completion for TVPPA Lineman Apprenticeship Program.
- Completion of TVPPA Advanced Lineworker Certificate Program.
- Valid CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
- Flagger Certification.
- Ability to lift, carry and use heavy tools and materials.
- Ability to safely operate a standard equipped JEA motor vehicle.
- Ability to operate JEA field service installation equipment.
- Ability to safely operate specially equipped JEA construction/maintenance equipment.
- Ability to orally communicate via radio and telephone.
- Ability to see and read printed material.
- Ability to walk several miles per day over rough terrain.
- Ability to enter/exit 22” diameter accesses as well as work in confined spaces.
- Ability to climb and perform work from a ladder.
- Ability to climb poles and perform work from heights.
Indoor/outdoor and all-weather conditions subject to 24 hours per day, 7 days a week on-call status. Working at heights and in subterranean vaults. Exposure to high voltage, the risk of gas fire/explosion, wastewater, and cave-ins. Location and work hours are determined by Management and may be adjusted as needed.
DrivingMust have and maintain a valid Tennessee Class “A” license with air brake and tanker endorsement.
TelephoneMust maintain an operating telephone and furnish the number to his/her supervisor.
Essential Functions- Constructs all required specifications safely and in a professional manner without supervision.
- Assumes major duties when called upon, such as directing line crews during trouble calls and in absence of foreman.
- Works energized lines with hot-line tools or with aerial bucket truck.
- Energizes and de-energizes circuits.
- Reads blueprints, work orders, and sketches.
- Trim, trees.
- Installs, maintains, and/or removes electrical equipment utilized in transmission and distribution of electricity.
- Performs substation and system switching.
- Patrols and inspects overhead lines and underground lines.
- Investigates and corrects equipment and/or controls malfunctions or makes temporary by-pass adjustments until proper repair/replacement can be scheduled.
- Receives and responds to a variety of complicated customer complaints and concerns.
- Reads voltage, current and phase rotation on system and for customers.
- Teaches apprentice lineman classes and conducts on-the-job training.
- Operates truck-mounted boring equipment, digger-derrick, backhoe, tractor, trencher, wire puller, wire tensioner, and aerial device.
- Proficient in operation and maintenance of underground distribution.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of operational records and reports related to work orders, transformers, oil circuit breakers, reclosers, meters, vehicle reports, and other equipment facilities as required.
- Constantly aware of system feeds and alerts other personnel of change in line feed direction, location of open points, installed grounds, joint-use hazards, and other conditions necessary for safely working lines.
- Enforces safety rules and regulations.
- Maintains and inspects safety equipment and rubber goods.
- Monitors and maintains inventory of parts and equipment.
- Stocks/restocks truck.
- Organizes tools and materials.
- Cleans tools, equipment, grounds, and other facilities.
- Reports irregularities found in the system.
- Operates radio system.
- Subject to 24 hours per day 7 days per week on-call status.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
Distribution – This is a full time position.
