Walking School Bus role at TETON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT #1.
Position for the school year.
Position DetailsReports To:
Transportation Director
This FTE is not eligible for benefits or retirement.
Position InformationWalking School Bus staff member leads children to and from Jackson Elementary School along a dedicated route, encouraging safe travel. The staff member manages logistics such as attendance and family communication. Shifts are typically 1.5–2 hours in length, including the walk plus prep and wrap-up time. Shifts occur every weekday before and after school.
Essential Job Functions- Ensures the safety of each passenger while on the walking bus in accordance with board policies and rules.
- Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations (e.g., road hazards, medical emergencies) for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution to the situation.
- Establishing and maintaining rapport with passengers.
- Maintain discipline among passengers.
- Maintain effective contact with the public.
- Satisfactorily complete required training and first aid programs.
- Submit to random drug and alcohol testing, state law.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Employ effective decision making skills.
- Engage in two-way communication with students, district staff, parents, and the community.
- Knowledge of public laws, rules, regulations, and current business issues governing student transportation services.
- Ability to weigh options, think clearly, evaluate accurately, and make sound judgements.
