Location placement will be based on student enrollment, building need, and applicant skill set.
Salary: $23.98 per hour, DOE. Compensation package can be found here.
Reports To:
Special Education Teachers, Sped Coordinator, and Building Principal(s)
- To assist special education and general education teachers in implementing programs for students with disabilities.
- Provide assistance to teachers and students in both academics and social/emotional instruction.
- Work across the school setting in various inclusion classrooms and specialized programs with students requiring specialized instruction and assistance.
- Work with individual students or small groups under the direction of the teacher in programs outlined in the student’s IEP.
- Use effective instructional and classroom management strategies to engage students with disabilities in general education classroom activities.
- Assist with progress monitoring tasks and other record keeping duties as assigned.
- Assist with lifting and moving of children with physical disabilities as appropriate.
- Assist students in accessing the general education curriculum and program.
- Assist with accommodations and/or modifications as specified in each student’s IEP.
- Supervise students during school arrival/dismissal, lunch, recess, and field trips.
- Notify the teacher of problems or special information concerning student learning or safety.
- Perform clerical, bulletin board, and classroom cleanup duties as assigned.
- Obtain and maintain CPI certification.
- Serve as the chief information source for substitutes.
- Maintain student confidentiality as required by State and Federal statutes.
- Assume other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or director of special education.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associate Degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Spanish skills preferred
- A combination of education and experience that prepares applicant for this position

Vision and hearing abilities must meet job requirements.
The position requires the ability to manage multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and staff.
The work environment is typically indoors with a noise level ranging from low to moderate, potentially becoming loud with large groups. The employee may move between rooms and work in crowded hallways. Duties may be performed outdoors for playground duty or during bus arrivals/departures. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Hazard-free, clean, and healthy environment expected.
Compensation and Benefits$23.98 per hour, DOE. Special Education Para hiring bonus: $3,000 over two years for hires from 10/1/25 onward, requiring a two-year commitment. First $1,500 paid at hire; second $1,500 paid at start of second year. Pro-rated amounts may be owed for early resignation. Location-based on student enrollment and building need.
