This beat will primarily cover local government, public safety and education. Other topics may arise as we are a nimble newsroom, responding and adapting to the needs of our community. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of an innovative public media organization in one of the most beautiful places in the country.
Primary Responsibilities- Report three spot stories per week and two to three features per month, including unique visual assets such as photos and videos
- Write timely web stories in alignment with coverage and contribute short on‑air readers as necessary
- Cultivate relationships with a wide array of diverse sources
- Stay informed on local, regional, national and international news
- Occasionally produce newscast, cover breaking news and edit coverage
- Act as a media and community liaison, representing KHOL at political forums, community events, fundraisers and more
- Participate in KHOL’s membership drives and occasionally support station team at non‑news events, including concerts and community events
- Pitch to national and regional shows as time allows
Starting salary $55,000 to $60,000. Exact salary determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity. KHOL offers generous paid time off, a ski pass to Snow King Mountain Resort, a flexible schedule and workspace, as well as health insurance and a 401(k) matching up to 3% following six months of employment.
