Overview
Position:
Accounting Technician
, Navy Region Southeast Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR). This role, located at CNRSE aboard NAS Jacksonville, supports the financial office by performing double‑entry accounting duties for asset, liability, operating accounts, purchase orders, daily activity record summaries (DARS), transfer documents, inventories, and journal vouchers.
- Maintain, analyze, interpret, and report financial data using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Post general ledger accounts from original documents using double‑entry bookkeeping.
- Review, examine, verify, and analyze records for validity, completeness, and accuracy.
- Perform accounts receivable and accounts payable functions as needed.
- Obtain missing or corrected data from supporting documents or program manager.
- Extract information from multiple sources to ensure all required data is included.
- Verify purchase orders and procurement documents to ensure authorized purchases and reconcile invoices for vendor payment.
- Maintain an internal control system and follow procedures.
- Verify transfer documents, reconcile DAR clearing account, and post inventory submissions.
- Calculate monthly cost of goods sold figures and track inventory records.
- Maintain files of all source documents, correspondence, and messages pertaining to records.
- Type required reports, documents, and memoranda.
- At month end, ensure accuracy of general ledger postings, reconcile balances with subsidiary ledgers, and close assigned accounts.
- Report imbalances to supervisor for guidance.
- Print checks or prepare electronic funds transfer documents as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- One year of experience using GAAP and an integrated double‑entry accrual accounting system to review and analyze financial information.
- Knowledge of GAAP and theories to maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals.
- Ability to read, review, and analyze financial statements, reports, ledgers, and journals.
- Knowledge of finance functional areas to investigate and resolve errors and discrepancies.
- Basic math skills and use of a 10‑key calculator.
- Computer proficiency, including automated accounting systems and standard office applications, to input data, understand error reports, take corrective action, and generate standard reports.
- Knowledge of procedures and regulations to respond to recurring vendor and agency questions.
- Must meet federal employment suitability requirements and successfully complete background investigation.
- Must pass the E‑Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved.
- Must undergo Personal Identity Verification (PIV) using two forms of identification from the Form I‑9.
- May be required to pass pre‑employment examinations.
- A valid state driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
- Salary must be sent to a financial institution by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Applicants not submitting for Military Spouse Preference (MSP) must reside within a 50‑mile radius at time of applying.
- Male applicants must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
- Selected candidate may be required to complete a probationary period.
- Selected candidate must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- Social Security card is required.
- A favorable background is required; failure may result in withdrawal of offer.
