Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
The Foreman I manages the construction crew, equipment and materials, ensuring specifications are followed and work proceeds on schedule.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Create and complete a job safety analysis every morning.
- Oversee crew activities efficiently.
- Supervise, manage, and direct training, development, appraisal and work assignments.
- Understand project plans, blueprints and specifications.
- Manage tools, materials, supplies and equipment utilization.
- Respond immediately to site production issues.
- Report crew hours and code time accurately daily.
- Implement improvements that enhance company operations.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
- Comply with all safety policies and report unsafe activities.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Provide leadership by example and share knowledge/skills.
Education And Experience
- 5+ years experience building highways/roads.
- Knowledge of one or two construction phases (Structures, Dirt, Pipe, Pavement, etc.).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Driver’s License, OSHA 10/30, First Aid and CPR.
Language Skills
- Read limited two- and three-syllable words and recognize word and number similarities.
- Print and speak simple sentences.
Mathematical Skills
- Add, subtract, multiply, divide using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
- Calculate rates, ratios, percentages and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
- Apply common sense in detailed written or oral instructions.
- Address problems with a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PLANNING/ORGANIZING
- Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Outdoors but in an enclosed vehicle protected from extreme weather.
- Exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind).
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVEL
- Moderate physical activity; perform somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily technical nature.
MANUAL DEXTERITY
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with fingers.
- Navigate minor obstacles by foot at construction sites.
