Central Southern Construction is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Construction Estimator to join our team in Jacksonville, Florida. This is a full time, in office position supporting the estimating and bidding of civil construction projects.
The ideal candidate has hands on estimating experience in heavy civil construction and understands how to build complete, competitive bids from plans and specifications. We are looking for someone who can independently review opportunities, perform takeoffs, develop pricing, coordinate subcontractor and supplier quotes, and assist with bids from initial review through submission.
Responsibilities include:- Review plans, specifications, solicitations, amendments, and other bid documents
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
- Prepare estimates for heavy civil scopes including earthwork, grading, utilities, drainage, concrete, roadway and pavement work, and site development
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Identify project risks, scope gaps, and potential cost impacts
- Develop bid pricing and assist with bid strategy
- Maintain organized estimate files, pricing information, and supporting documentation
- Coordinate with project management and operations to ensure estimates reflect realistic production rates, equipment needs, and field conditions
- Assist with bid submissions, proposals, and required supporting documentation
- Review awarded projects with operations and assist with estimate turnover
- Previous estimating experience in heavy civil construction required
- Strong understanding of civil construction means, methods, materials, equipment, and production
- Experience reading civil plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Experience with quantity takeoffs and construction estimating software
- Strong Excel and computer skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines at the same time
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with subcontractors, vendors, project managers, and field personnel
- Federal, DOT, municipal, or other public works estimating experience is a plus
This position is based in our Jacksonville office and is not a remote position.
Central Southern Construction Corp. is a growing heavy civil contractor performing projects throughout multiple states for federal and public sector clients. We are looking for an estimator who can become a key part of our preconstruction team and help identify, price, and secure new work.
