Chief, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery – UF COM‑J
The Department of Surgery and the Heart & Vascular Center at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville (UF COM‑J) seeks a Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. The position is a full‑time, 1.0 FTE clinical faculty appointment at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank (tenure or non‑tenure). The successful candidate must be eligible for unrestricted licensure in the state of Florida.
Responsibilities- Develop and manage the Division within the Heart & Vascular Center, supervising clinical work and implementing policies and procedures to improve services.
- Oversee delivery of high‑quality cardiothoracic surgical care, including clinical, quality and compliance functions.
- Manage administrative operations, budgeting, resource allocation, vendor relations and staffing of the Division.
- Recruit, retain and evaluate high‑quality physicians and staff.
- Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, including case‑study reviews.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (interventional cardiology, vascular surgery) to provide integrated care.
- Attend leadership meetings and work with hospital administrators and community partners to advance cardiothoracic care.
- Perform patient care: consultations, procedures and management of complex cases.
- Develop and manage call schedules and clinical coverage.
- Organize divisional meetings, guest speaker courses and education programs for medical staff.
- Provide didactic education for medical students, residents and fellows in collaboration with other program directors.
- Promote research and continuous professional development of staff.
- MD/DO or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Board certified or board‑eligible in cardiothoracic surgery.
- Minimum 8 years of post‑fellowship experience performing adult cardiothoracic surgery, including CABG, valve surgery, aortic surgery, thoracoscopic/robotic lung resection and mediastinal surgery.
- Evidence of clinical leadership and program management experience.
- Active Florida medical license (or eligibility).
- Demonstrated excellence in advanced cardiac and thoracic procedures (CABG, complex valves, TEVAR, TAVR, robotic surgery, ECMO/LVAD).
- Academic experience with teaching, program development and clinical research.
- Leadership in a cardiothoracic surgical program.
