Role Mission: RISE stands for Reaching Independence through Support and Education. IDEA Exceptional Student RISE teachers ensure that students with a wide range of learning, cognitive, emotional, and physical disabilities are held to very high achievement expectations so that they reach their fullest potential. Our IDEA Exceptional Student RISE teachers teach all subjects such as Reading, Writing, Math, History, Adaptive PE, and more to students who have disabilities, and are not limited to intellectual, behavioral, and physical needs.
RISE Exceptional Student teachers also provide resources, education, training, and emotional support to families so they are prepared for long-term plans for their children.
Compensation:
- The starting teacher salary for 0 years of experience is $48,000. This role is eligible for stipends based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership ranging from $500-$4,000 each. There are opportunities and incentives through our Teacher Career Pathway with the potential to earn up to $10,000 in additional compensation.
- Additional hourly compensation is provided for after school tutoring or Saturday school as assigned.

Eligible staff may receive up to 8 weeks of paid leave for birth or adoption based on tenure and caregiver designation. - Tuition Reimbursement:
Up to 50% of tuition toward a qualifying degree program, up to a maximum of $5,250 per year subject to manager discretion and budget. - Employer-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: 5 face-to-face counseling sessions per year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work-life services at no cost.
- Dental, vision, disability, life insurance, parenting benefits, FSA options, generous vacation time, referral bonuses, professional development, and employer paid 403(b) retirement matching up to 4% of annual compensation.
- Relocation allowance may be offered to defray moving costs, if applicable.
Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year institution - Experience:
Experience in an Exceptional Student Education classroom setting with students who have significant disabilities - Licenses/Certifications:
Valid state certification in Exceptional Student Education; current GT endorsement or willingness to earn GT endorsement upon hire
Knowledge and
Skills:
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adjust and adapt to a variety of situations in the school environment
- Ability to facilitate Admission, Review and Dismissal meetings
- Strong family engagement and communication
- Record of results for students who are academically at risk
Exceptional Student Education Teacher Responsibilities:
- Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students
- Support coordination of related services for students on their caseload
- Develop IEPs for a caseload of students
- Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track progress
- Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect progress and goals
- Assess students’ skills to determine needs and develop teaching plans
- Collect and analyze student data to maximize achievement
- Discuss student progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators
- Prepare and help students transition between grades and after graduation
- Implement state learning standards and IDEA curricula and assessments to meet ambitious academic expectations
- Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback
- Implement formal and informal assessments; adjust plans and update gradebook weekly
