Primary Purpose

Demonstrated expertise in educating students with a prior faculty appointment or by way of clinical expertise as an Anesthesiologist Assistant or other responsible professional position related to an academic area of specialization contained within Health Professions Division.

Essential Job Functions

Teaches graduate Anesthesiology course(s) in the classroom as assigned.

Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.

Presents ideas clearly.

Creates a climate that is conducive to learning.

Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation, and consultation.

Participates in department, college‑wide, and university‑wide committees and meetings.

Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.

Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.

Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.

May manage subordinates in the classroom or laboratory.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University’s policies and applicable laws.

Mentors and/or orients new faculty as assigned.

Adaptability and willingness to teach courses and/or perform special duties as assigned.

Participates in state and/or local community service that is a recognized form of career development.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements

Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.

Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate), and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.

Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations in the English language.

Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the particular discipline.

Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).

Required Certifications / Licensures

Current certification and eligible for licensure in the State of Florida.

Three (3) years of related experience and/or training.

Terminal degree in related area of specialization.
