What You’ll Do

The Senior Managing Director (SMD), Alumni Impact, sets the vision for and leads the execution of Teach for America North Carolina’s alumni leadership and impact strategy. With more than 2,300 alumni living in nearly every county of North Carolina, the SMD deeply believes that we must accelerate the impact of our alumni network both individually and collectively to realize educational excellence for all.

This new role will develop and execute strategies for alumni engagement, collective leadership, career acceleration, and national-NC integration across the state and within 5 regions:
Eastern NC, Triangle, Piedmont Triad, Charlotte, and Western NC. As SMD, Alumni Impact, you will develop and maintain a clear understanding of the educational talent needs of the NC ecosystem and the leadership development needs of our network - using both to develop strategic state-specific partnerships and maximize integration of TFA’s national alumni offerings.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Set Vision & Direction and Manage Team (30%)

  • Aligned with our TFA NC 2026
    -2030 strategic narrative, set the vision and direction for North Carolina’s alumni leadership & impact across the state and within 5 regions:
    Eastern NC, Triangle, Piedmont Triad, Charlotte, Western NC.
  • Develop and lead the execution of robust strategies for alumni engagement, collective leadership, career acceleration, and national-NC integration.
  • Champion a culture of experimentation and learning: piloting new engagement models, assessing effectiveness, and scaling what works while discontinuing what doesn't.
  • Collaborate across the TFA National Career Center and NC teams to ensure a strong & cohesive experience for alumni aligned to our strategic direction.
  • Assess and optimize relationships with alumni, including regularly engaging externally to continuously learn how TFA NC best supports their ongoing impact.
  • Build and lead a growing, remote team aligned with the new alumni-focused vision & direction.

Alumni Engagement, Connectivity, & Career Acceleration (30%)

  • Increase alumni engagement in TFA national Career Center offerings and leverage the national 35th Anniversary Summit (October 2026) to build hope, optimism, & momentum across NC’s statewide alumni community.
  • Maximize alumni leadership and career impact in NC classrooms, schools, districts, nonprofit organizations, education technology companies, and policy & advocacy through leveraging NC-specific programs, community resources, and partnerships.
  • Lead the expansion of TFA alumni services to Western NC.
  • Build thriving & inclusive alumni networks grounded in TFA’s core values and local context across NC.
  • Set ambitious goals and track alumni engagement through TFA systems to guide strategy and measure movement-building effectiveness.

Strategic Partnerships (30%)

  • In collaboration with the NC Educational Impact team, deepen relationships with existing and new partner school districts to position TFA as a strategic talent partner for attracting, developing, and retaining master teachers, principals, and district leaders.
  • In collaboration with the NC External Affairs team, establish and maintain successful partnerships with universities, nonprofit organizations, and companies at the state and regional levels that create career acceleration pathways for alumni and support our ability to drive collective impact and elevate alumni impact stories that demonstrate TFA NC's collective progress toward educational excellence goals and inspire continued engagement across the network.
  • In collaboration with the Development team, cultivate alumni as philanthropic partners and advocates, leveraging their professional and personal networks to advance TFA NC's fundraising goals and community influence.
