Job Description

The Instructional Coach collaborates with classroom teachers to support student learning and enhance teaching practices. The Coach analyzes student data and supports teachers in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. They provide personalized one‑on‑one support based on the needs of individual teachers and work directly with students on targeted interventions. The Coach examines student data, identifies students in need of additional support, assembles appropriate materials, and delivers interventions.

They report to the Assistant Principal regularly and to the Principal as necessary.

Role Responsibilities
  • Analyze class and grade‑level data to share insights with teachers/staff and inform instructional practices.
  • Assist in collection of baseline data for the school.
  • Facilitate meetings of Professional Learning Communities.
  • Observe teacher practice and provide feedback to individual teachers.
  • Support teachers and staff in the use of school data systems.
  • Support school‑based administration and leadership teams.
  • Demonstrate willingness to assume leadership positions.
  • Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
  • Support in analyzing student assessment data.
  • Assist teachers in making instructional decisions based on data.
  • Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
  • Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
  • Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum.
  • Provide teachers resources related to instruction and curriculum.
  • Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
  • Model effective, differentiated instruction when requested.
  • Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers.
  • Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers.
  • Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning.
  • Work positively toward meeting identified school improvement goals.
  • Assist with development of curriculum, instruction and assessments.
  • Create aligned pacing guides.
  • Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers.
  • Possess an understanding of when to contact administrators regarding issues of safety/ethics.
  • Participate fully in professional development for coaches, including peer observations, coach collaboration meetings, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions.
  • Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum and assessments.
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with other Instructional Coaches, curriculum specialists and interventionists.
  • Look into/research new research‑based programs and curriculums as necessary for the teachers.
  • Analyze student performance data, determine students in need of intervention, design and deliver student interventions to small groups of students.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Principal.

  • Knowledge of:
    • Professional development of teachers focused on improving student achievement.
    • How positive work relationships affect teachers and administration.
    • Research‑based instructional practices that result in increased student performance.
    • Individualized, classroom‑based coaching with participants to support them in their needs as necessary.
    • Florida Department of Education Certificate.
    • The philosophy and vision of GOCA.
  • Ability To:
    • Prepare teachers in providing a rich and engaging teaching environment to meet students’ needs.
    • Interpret student data.
    • Effectively express ideas orally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
Training, Education, and Experience
  • Florida Department of Education Certificate in appropriate content area.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (Master’s degree preferred).
