Position:
School Counselor (PT) (FLSA: Part‑Time Exempt)
Location: St. Patrick Catholic School
Reports To: Principal
Primary Function: Under the direction of the School Principal, responsible for providing counseling individually and in group settings to students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Recognize and support the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Demonstrate lived Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community; model teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
- Help build the school’s faith community by participating in and planning religious and service activities.
- Set an example for students by personal adherence to Catholic doctrine and moral principles.
- Identify and develop creative intervention methods to adapt to unusual situations; coordinate, monitor, and report student interventions.
- Serve as a resource specialist for teachers and parents regarding counseling needs; work cooperatively with parents to build confidence in the school.
- Work with students, parents, and staff compassionately and productively.
- Assist teachers in effective planning, organizing, and implementation of strategies for optimum behavior management.
- Serve as liaison to school staff and outside resources; maintain consistency and continuity in response procedures.
- Provide guidance to teachers in working with student behavior and classroom management; implement effective referral and follow‑up processes.
- Demonstrate exceptional counseling techniques, including documentation and student tracking.
- Provide appropriate information to staff related to the comprehensive school counseling program.
- Assist teachers, parents/guardians, and other responsible parties in interpreting and understanding student data.
- Monitor and supervise student activities as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree and a current, valid state guidance counselor certificate from the Florida Department of Education or a valid Florida state license as Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
- Strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church; practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
- Experience in special education preferred.
- Excellent communication skills–written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills.
- Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; self‑starter, well‑organized, and a team player.
- Availability for evening and weekend work as necessary; reliable transportation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in computer technology including word processing, Excel, and related software; maintain confidentiality.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and adapting strategies in a ministerial environment.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
- Professional bearing and clean, neat personal appearance.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination, manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal office environment. Required activities: walking; sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; and carrying.
