Overview
Mechanical Engineer - Hydropower role at Black & Veatch.
Responsibilities- Lead, design, and manage new and upgraded hydropower projects, including: hydro turbines; dam and water conveyance (radial gates and large valves); generator cooling systems; raw water systems; fire protection systems; turbine and generator bearings; compressed air systems; bearing oil systems.
- May perform dam safety inspections (lighting, drainage, isolation methods, handrails, doors, alarms, etc.) and design improvements to HVAC systems, spillway gates and hoists, instream flow release, and low-level outlets.
- Contribute to studies and valuations, optimize existing operations, and provide full design services and construction support to deliver facilities ranging from small to large in capacity.
- Engage in front-end project activities including thorough studies and overall project management to ensure quality results within budgets and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of mechanical or systems engineering experience in power generating facilities or related fields.
- Experience in managing projects and/or programs in a utility power plant setting.
- Experience in design and operation support of conventional and pumped storage hydroelectric generation stations.
- Previous experience in a client-facing role.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program (or equivalent engineering experience).
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and ability to support where necessary.

Work Environment and Schedule- Office environment with potential site visits; may involve prolonged sitting and computer use, with physical tasks such as crouching, grasping, and standing/walking during site visits.
