Position Title:
Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO – Level
1)
Area of Requirement:

Scope of Position:
The SSHO’s primary duty is to prepare and enforce the contractor’s Safety Program in accordance with EM 385-1-1 and OSHA requirements. The SSHO or qualified alternate must be on-site at all times when work is performed.
Tasks and Capabilities
Required:
- Implement and enforce the Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
- Ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1 and 29 CFR 1926.16.
- Conduct job hazard analyses, safety inspections, and incident investigations.
- Manage Competent Person assignments for all hazard categories.
- Maintain training, documentation, safety logs, and reporting to Government safety offices.
Mandatory Experience and
Certifications:
- Five (5) years of experience preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity, OR three (3) years if possessing a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or an equivalent safety/health degree.
- Completed OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety course or equivalent. (Certificate should be included in application package).
- 24 hours of formal classroom/online SOH training within the past 5 years and ability to maintain 24 hours every three years.
- Must meet all qualification requirements of EM 385-1-1 (including subparagraphs).
- Must allocate and provide Competent Persons for all identified hazards.
Preferred/Desired
Certifications:
- CSP, Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST)
- NAVFAC Safety training
- EM 385-1-1 40-hour certification

Qualifications/Requirements:
