Position: Supervisor, Energy Management & Control Systems (EMCS)

Job Summary

  • Oversees EMCS projects and warranties, including coordinating with engineers and contractors and performing job inspections.
  • Identifies opportunities for energy savings and develops EMCS projects to achieve energy conservation goals.
  • Modifies EMCS programs, graphics, and databases to ensure optimal operation of EMCS and HVAC systems.
  • Responds to reports from principals and coordinates corrective action with appropriate parties.
  • Provides technical guidance, assistance, and training to District staff regarding installation, maintenance, and operation of EMCS.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of existing building systems, including HVAC and EMCS, to determine priority for repair and/or upgrade of various system components.
  • Works with engineers and contractors, as well as principals and staff, to fully utilize District’s EMCS investments.
  • Provides input for district design guidelines.
  • Reviews drawings and specifications from design professionals relating to new construction, remodeling and renovation of existing buildings and EMCS systems.
  • Develops construction estimates for budget purposes.
  • Develops and maintains a filing system for the latest programming revisions at each school, including plans, contractor’s name, system modifications, warranty duration and follow-up inspections.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree preferred in Building Construction, Management or related field, from an accredited college or university. Experience can be substituted for post‑secondary education with a required high school diploma.

    Experience:

    Four (4) years of experience managing, planning and/or coordinating and implementing EMCS in large complex facilities.

    Licensing/Certification/Registration: A valid Florida driver’s license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Knowledge of techniques, methods, practices, and procedures used in conducting energy conservation studies and analyses, designing projects, preparing specifications, and coordinating energy management control systems with special emphasis on EMCS; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; and electrical systems.
    • Knowledge of state-of-the-art EMCS technologies and control sequences, BACNet protocol and functionality of District’s EMCS systems.
    • Knowledge of building construction, electrical and mechanical principles, and heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and associated systems.
    • Knowledge of all phases of construction including specifications, plans, scheduling, equipment and warranties.
    • Knowledge of computerized building management systems.
    • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
    • Basic oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Basic word processing and spreadsheet software skills.
    • Ability to manage and coordinate projects of differing degrees of complexity and size with engineers, contractors, manufacturer’s representatives, building principals and administrators, and governmental agencies as required.
    • Ability to inspect construction and renovation sites as well as existing school facilities.

      Ability to estimate costs and analyze materials, labor and time for proposed EMCS projects.
    • Ability to project savings from energy conservation measures.
    • Ability to conduct research, gather and analyze data, and prepare reports.
    • Ability to read, understand and apply Florida Department of Education, Florida Building Code, and other governmental regulations that apply to building construction and energy.
    • Ability to read, understand, and apply job‑related manuals, information, data, and other materials.
    • Ability to work independently and be results oriented.
    • Ability to establish working relationships with principals, District administrators, EMCS technicians and vendors, engineers, and other employees.
