Position SummaryThe Engineer reports to the Captain or the Captain’s designee. The primary responsibility is the maintenance and operation of all machinery, systems, and spaces.
Responsibilities- Familiarize oneself with the vessel’s operational status upon joining from the off‑going engineer.
- Properly turn over duties to relief crew.
- Report unsafe situations or opportunities for improvement.
- Complete general and planned maintenance schedules.
- Keep the Captain and shoreside management apprised of all conditions, including maintenance requirements that may adversely affect the vessel or its operating schedule.
- Maintain accurate and complete engine log, maintenance, and engine records.
- Provide monthly fuel and lube oil reporting.
- Supervise procurement, loading, use, and transfer of:
- Potable and ballast water
- Fuel oil
- Lube oil
- When acting as PIC, complete and sign proper entries on the Declaration of Inspection form and the vessel’s Oil Transfer Procedure.
- Monitor the quality and condition of engineering supplies.
- Maintain inventories of adequate spare parts and tools.
- Work on deck, including ship docking and tug mooring operations.
- Act as a lookout.
- Perform other duties as designated by the Captain or designee.
- Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC).
- Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
- USCG 719k Physical examination meeting Merchant Mariner Medical certification.
- Five years of industry experience.
- Pre‑employment drug screening.
- Maritime experience working aboard a vessel.
- USCG engineering license.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Work safely in a marine setting.
- Walk, sit, or stand for extended periods of time.
- Frequently reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently crouch or stoop.
- Climb/descend stairs and ladders.
- Occasionally lift and/or carry up to 60 lbs.
- Occasionally enter and work in enclosed spaces.
- Withstand exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, rain, cold, and humidity.

Moran Towing Corporation offers generous benefits and professional growth opportunities. The target pay range for this Engineer position is $29.00 – $41.75 per hour. Final salary will be based on location, experience, and related qualifications.
