Overview
Environmental, Safety, & Health (ESH) Technician at IMIA, LLC. Reports to the Risk/ESH Manager and Regional ESH Supervisor (directly) and Project Manager (at job-sites).
SummaryResponsible for all aspects of safety and environmental requirements required for IMIA during the accomplishment of work.
Responsibilities- Inspect work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with customer, company, state, and federal safety and environmental policies and regulations.
- Communicate safety and environmental requirements to individuals and employee groups.
- Formulate, track and conduct routine project safety and environmental training.
- Identify dangerous areas/operations and report them to onsite and offsite management.
- Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes.
- Recommend corrective procedures and determine safety-related trends.
- Ensure safety equipment supply and availability.
- Apply knowledge of safety and environmental policies and regulations and follow established guidelines.
- Work under direct supervision of the Risk/ESH Manager and ESH Supervisor with daily reporting to the Project Manager.
- Exercise independent judgment as required for the role.
High school graduate with ability to read, write, and understand written direction. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Effective oral communication skills.
Required ExperienceFormal or informal on-the-job training and 2 years’ experience in the shipbuilding/ship repair or maritime safety industry. Preference for candidates with marine coating and hot work experience. Thorough knowledge of federal and state/local regulations within the marine industry. Entry-level position with mentorship from a senior ESH Technician.
Required SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents related to safety and environmental regulations (e.g., contract specifications, rules). Ability to work cooperatively with others and follow instructions delivered orally, in writing, or diagram form.
Physical and Working ConditionsRegularly walk; frequently stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, or crawl; occasionally sit. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include near, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. May need to enter production areas requiring respirators, confined space entry, and work from heights. Most work is onboard ships, in dry docks or shipyards with fast-paced conditions and overtime.
Exposure to outdoor elements, high noise levels, chemicals, and dusty conditions.
