Job SummaryAs a Rail Engineer IV, you will lead the design, development, and execution of rail infrastructure projects from concept through construction. Your expertise and leadership will guide interdisciplinary teams and deliver high‑quality rail solutions that meet client expectations and industry standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Use CAD software to create detailed drawings, plans, and layouts for rail infrastructure and related components.
- Apply rail design principles to solve complex engineering challenges, including detailed construction cost estimates and project specifications.
- Collaborate with rail engineers to provide technical support, ensuring designs meet quality and client standards.
- Collect and analyze data relevant to rail projects.
- Work closely with cross‑functional teams, including engineers and project managers, to ensure seamless project execution and compliance.
- Participate in quality assurance and control activities, ensuring designs meet high technical standards and adhere to applicable guidelines.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing guidance and support to promote their professional growth.
- Proficiency in CAD software (Micro Station, InRail/InRoads) is required.
- Experience with Micro Station Connect and Open Rail is a plus.
- Knowledge of rail industry regulations, codes, and standards.
- Ability to direct and lead engineers and designers successfully.
- Willingness to teach design skills and topics to junior staff.
- Effective communication within the team and across departments.
- Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
- Collaborative working within teams, both national and local.
- Commitment to lifelong learning and adaptation to new technologies.
- Independent work, ownership of tasks, and self‑management to meet schedules.
- Drive projects from concept through 100% completion for plans, specifications, and estimates (with manager support).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program.
- 5‑8 years of relevant experience.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- Assign tasks and direct engineers, designers, and administrative staff.
- Plan and coordinate detailed aspects of engineering work.
- Prepare scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
- Assist with proposals to provide professional services.
